It hasn't rained excessively in a while and the days are definitely getting longer. Not wanting to test my horse riding luck too much in case we got another MONTH of rain like we did late spring last year, I'd been putting off working with the horses.
Last week it was just too nice so I grabbed Jade and took her to the round pen to see what she remembered and how much work I had to do. Luckily it seemed that not only did she recall most everything, her exuberance and general happy attitude towards being worked was super obvious and we ended the session with both of us happy. Well, and Jade possibly more tired than she'd anticipated.
Due to life, I didn't get back to her until a week later where I saddled her up and decided to just see how far she remembered things and find more weak spots. I didn't even have my helmet in anticipation that we wouldn't make it past fence work. Well, black horse proved me wrong and we ended up working on our transitions and canter departs especially. She's definitely out of shape (as am I) but it was super fun and felt great to be on my hard working, sweet girl.
Maybe spring really is coming?
