Breeding Program

Temperament || Talent || Trainable
After spending the greater part of 25 years retraining and rehabbing horses that had had a rough start in life or simply found themselves on hard times, we realized that we could produce excellent youngsters that would be phenomenal citizens while becoming competitive horses for show as well as stellar companions.  This doesn't mean that our days of "fixing" problem horses is over, but that we are working hard to produce excellent sport horse prospects that are trained professionally and correctly from day one to want to work for their handlers and are eager students.  We feel that this type of training results in happy, confident, and forward thinking horses that love to work.

Cirrus Sky Farms is first and foremost a training facility and we value that not one single breed is "the best" at everything for everyone.  Huge flamboyant moving dressage horses won't be an ideal choice for a beginner rider nor a petite one and vice versus.  Some people prefer their horses with color, some prefer the plainest of bays.  While we cannot appeal to all buyers at all times, we can place priority on what we know best: sane, trainable, competitive horses that will please even the harshest of critics or timid of riders.

While we have experience in many breeds and enjoy them all, our personal breed preference is Friesians, Warmbloods, and American Paint Horses.  Each of these wonderful breeds has something to offer depending on the rider's goals and preferences.  As trainers, we love the variety and challenge of figuring out how an individual horse ticks as well as enjoying their breed specific differences.

The Friesians we use in our program are selected for their excellent dressage suitability and kind temperament.  We place emphasis on horses that have the "Sport" predicate to help establish a history of performance in sport disciplines (especially dressage).  Train ability, willingness, and temperament are paramount for our friesians.  We want a gorgeous horse that is a lovely partner and tries their heart out for you.  Our friesians are a blast to ride and kind enough for a pony ride.

We personally have a strong background in KWPN (Dutch) Warmbloods but also work with Oldenburg and Hanoverian lines for our warmblood program.  Once more, trainablity and amateur friendly temperament are first and foremost important with excellent structure and movement suitable for the competitive dressage arena with proven bloodlines to support these goals of producing top horses with excellent minds.

Being Texans, it would seem remiss to ignore our lovely stock horse friends - after all, they have paved the way along with thoroughbreds for us to be where we are and we will never forget that.  American Paint horses are lovely to look at, wonderful to train, and suitable for a wide range of people and budgets.  Due to the extreme specialization within the breed, we are trying to offer a sport horse type paint that can be difficult to find reliably but unforgettable once you own one.  Once more, temperament, train ability, and structure are the focus here; we won't skip on those qualities on any of our breedings.

Currently we limit our breedings due to space and personnel reasons.  We want to make sure that all foals born here have plenty of handling coupled with time to "learn to be a horse" as well to avoid burnout.  Our staff uses a progressive training model to make sure that the foals aren't "flooded" with too much information throughout their development and experience consistent professional handling to ensure a trusting and confident young horse.  You can be assured that your CSF baby will be ready to learn, respectful of humans, and a joy to own.
